Wanderlust Wardrobe: Travel in comfort and style

Today I'm joining Betabrand's Wanderlust Wardrobe project to talk about the perfect clothing to wear on those long days of travel.  Being a mother of three young boys (4 and under) it is not only important to be comfortable, but practical as well.  Below are some of my favorite items to wear when traveling.

First lets go over that perfect outfit.  It is important to layer and layer well.  Right now I am nursing our baby, so when I put together outfits, I make sure that the outfit is nursing friendly.  I always choose a v neck or a scoop neckline for my top, that way I do not have to untuck or pull out my top.  These are a few of my personal favorites:

The next step is layering with comfort.  I personally love this button cardigan, they are super soft and you can use it as a nursing cover.  You can also opt for the fitted cardigan, which is also super soft to the touch.

I found this scarf/nursing cover on the internet and decided to make my own.  If you do not feel like making it (which is usually the case for me) then you can purchase it by clicking on the photo. You can also get the measurements of the scarf if you want to find your own fabric and make your own.  It was super easy and just involved sewing a line.  If I can do it, you can too!

If anyone knows me, they know I LIVE in jeggings.  Why you ask?  For two reasons: I cannot fit into my regular jeans quite just yet and they are just SO dang comfortable.  When I think of traveling, I never think of hard fabric up against my skin, like denim.  Our jeggings come in different styles and colors.  They even have functional pockets, SCORE!  If you are looking for a more dressier pants but with the same comfort as jeggings, you can check out these by Betabrand.  They offer different colors so you can grab a few pairs to mix and match with your wardrobe.  I usually find black is the best option, since it goes with just about anything in my closet.

When choosing shoes, I usually opt for the heaviest that I am bringing so it is not in my luggage.  That usually means tennis shoes.  If you invest in a nice pair of black tennis shoes, they will go with most outfits you choose.  This will help you throughout your vacation and help your feet too.  When I pack for my vacation, I plan all my outfits around 2-3 pairs of shoes max.  I am an avid carry on luggage only as well.  Unless it is absolutely necessary, I do NOT check my luggage.  I do not have the patience to wait for it to come, especially after a long flight and three restless little ones.  You can fit your clothes and your children's clothes in your carry on if done properly.  HERE are some tips for packing if you need them.  Trust me, traveling with just a carry on is LIFE CHANGING.

The last thing to consider is your extra bag that you get when you travel.  I usually have a large purse or bag.  I have recently gotten a new diaper bag as a gift.  It is nice because it is a book sack.  If you are traveling with a laptop, which I always am for work, a back pack might be your best option.  Whatever you choose, make sure it can hold snacks for you and your children, baby/hand wipes for cleaning up, in my case 5 diapers for my son, and anything else you think is important.  Here is a great link on tips on what to pack when traveling with little children.

Did you know that you can apply to be put on the TSA PreCheck list?  Having this has been life changing as well.  I do not have to remove my shoes, take out my laptop or even remove my coat.  Here is a link to apply to be put on the list.

What are some of your travel tips?  I would love to hear them.

Here are some inspirations that we came across that we love.
